Synchronizing My Documents (windows) on a linux server

Hi,

I would like to use my linux file server to synchronize my users documents from several Windows computers. Basically the same way a Windows 200x server works. Preferbly also through the internet.

How could I accomplish this? What software could I use?

Regards,
Robbert

Do the Windows machines need to have local copies of the files, or can they access them remotely?

You could simply share out a volume from Samba, and have all of the Windows machines mount it.

Hi MS3FGX,

Yes, I do prefer having local copies of the documents.

Hi all,

I just wanted to add a little info to this old post as I have found a very easy but (for me) perfectly working solution!

Each Windows user gets a linux account on the server. With samba I share all users home directory. In Windows the user maps his own home directory on the linux server. In Windows the user "moves" his documents to the share through the "My Documents" properties. (right click on "My Documents") Also make sure the option "Make availible offline" is selected. But I think this is always the fact when doing this for "My Documents"

From then Windows will syncronize the users "My Documents" on logon and login or whatever has been configured by the user in his Windows profile.
