hi all
i got a small problem and i got no clue how to fix it (i know nothing of linux :S )

i contacted my datacenter and they say it is a browser error

but i contact some1 els and he says it isnt a browser error so he asked me to check the log files

this is what i found in my log files

[Sun Feb 21 16:36:01 2010] [error] [client xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] Symbolic link not allowed: /home/server/public_html/files/8/9x7s9tjosopkzb/rzr-prot - BoosterKing - .iso

as you see , it says not allowed

but for files smaller then 4GB is it fine (i tryed it out to 1 GB files and they are fine )

the script i use is a download script
and it creates symbolic links to hide the real location of the file and to limit the download to 1 ip only (its a download script :P)

i tryed to find any help on the net but i cant find it :S

so i hope you can help me here

Why this only occurs on larger files I'm not sure. Usually this issue happens if the permissions are incorrect or the options for FollowSymLinks in apache set to not allowed. Are you sure the perms are right?

yes , i am sure about it

like i say , all files works perfect exept my iso of 7.4GB i try to download

thats the only file that gives me the symlink error , but if i try other files then it get forced download (like it need to be)

so symlinks works fine i think :S

Maybe it's a FTP or PHP file size limit obviously not a file system type restriction. What are you using to download just http? What's the script written in?

its a cgi script
written in perl
and using symlinks to go to the download file

http://boosterking.com in case of intrests

the script itself is xfs pro (xtrafilesharing pro)

with ftp it works perfect , exept that i cant manual download it because it is reconsised as a directory so i need to use a download manager for it

If the cgi script spits out a link people use then it's http. But I'm not sure why file size would matter. I wish I could help more' anyone else?

i changed that little spelling mistake ^^

i am doing a second test now
seems that the file i downloaded was corupted (dont ask my why :S) so i am now trying a other test (again 7GB , 7600.6 mb to be exactly :P)
the files are token from a torrent (going take a while now ) , but still
even corrupt files need to be able to get downloaded

the thing i am the most wondering of is that it give that 403 error

this example is a file of 1.9GB and downloaded with a torrent on the site self , same as my other 7.6GB file
normal if you go to a direct link ( here try this link to see what i mean .. http://www.boosterking.com/764n5ycnu...ng_-_.zip.html ) then it redirects you to my main page or to the site you try to download from (in this case it should be http://server.boosterking.com/files/...ing%20-%20.zip ) because those links are locked to your ip

but if you even get a 403 error and dont get redirected then something is wrong :s

there is a small note
direct links get deleted after 1 hour o.O

Are you sure the permissions are correct on this file as 403 suggests they are not.
files/1/mc0vweokm5033v/rzr-prot%20-%20BoosterKing%20-%20.iso

and the zip file does not seem to be there anymore as you get a "file not found" redirect page
files/5/z9xhspo7wkiahz/Prototype-TPTB%20-%20BoosterKing%20-%20.zip

Without seeing the file system it's hard for me to diagnose this issue.

sorry for that problem , but some1 is trying to fix it at this moment , thats why the links doesnt works (server isnt running so files cant create symlinks )

i will update here as soon the server is back online or that the problem is fixed ^^

it seems it was a apache error for 1 of other reason

i dit a fresh install and a friend of me got it fixed and he told me that it was a error of apache in the settings

now it is working perfect

Can you post the apache setting so others having the same issue will be able to find it'

they'll need to recompile apache from the sources with the latest version


i used cpanel before , and now i got a basic apache instalation
probaly it have to do with how cpanel compiles apache :S
