Swap monitors on linux server

1 server had an old CRT style monitor. We have an asus vw220s that we would like to use on that server. When I physically remove the CRT and install the flat screen, there is no display. Get an out of range error on the monitor. I put the CRT back in place and tried to change to the new screen in yast->hardware->monitor but asus vw220s is not listed. What is the correct way to install an different monitor on sles11?

Does "xrandr" return any infomation?
What is the native resolution of the monitor?

You may need to reboot the server for the video card to recognize it.

Thanks for the reply. I pressed ctr-alt f1 and ran yast. Got it working now.
