su: Authentication failure for root user even login wright user passwd

Hi
Version of operating system ubuntu lucid 10.04 server version .Could int able to login into root user with correct username and password file.Once the system get restarted the root password is not working off

root@beetel:~# cat /etc/ssh/ssh_config

# This is the ssh client system-wide configuration file. See
# ssh_config(5) for more information. This file provides defaults for
# users, and the values can be changed in per-user configuration files
# or on the command line.

# Configuration data is parsed as follows:
# 1. command line options
# 2. user-specific file
# 3. system-wide file
# Any configuration value is only changed the first time it is set.
# Thus, host-specific definitions should be at the beginning of the
# configuration file, and defaults at the end.

# Site-wide defaults for some commonly used options. For a comprehensive
# list of available options, their meanings and defaults, please see the
# ssh_config(5) man page.

As the file you posted states, it's for the SSH CLIENT settings. The SSH SERVER setting is what you need to look at (sshd_config), where you need to look at the value of PermitRootLogin.

Also, are you able to su/sudo to root? Tried to log in to the console as root? Was this ever working, or is this a new server? What error(s) do you see in the logs? As I've said in several of your other threads, you seem to put very little effort into looking anything up on your own (under ANY of your FOUR user id's), hardly ever post a follow up, answer questions when you're asked, or come back to mark your threads solved or even say thanks. Why should we continue to help you?
