SSH timing out/not connecting only home network

I've been trying to ssh out of my home network to school computers and I keep getting:
ssh: connect to host sage.math.washington.edu port 22: Connection timed out

I've tried this on my machine (running Ubuntu 10.04) and on a windows 7 machine (using putty). I have been successful ssh'ing to this machine using either of the laptops from every other network I've tried, so I'm pretty sure it's something about my home network. I'm a newb and have no idea what to do, so I haven't tried anything.

It could be an issue with the firewall. Please make sure that your Home network is allowed to access the School computers in School networks.

For a test try, disable the firewall at both ends and have a try.

Have you tried speaking to whoever controls the remote machines? I have seen this happen when a specific IP or IP range was blocked at the firewall on the remote network firewall. It is a definite possibility especially if you are connecting from a residential cable type connection with DHCP which often get onto blacklists due to problems with SPAM or other abuse by users.

Thanks for the suggestion to check the home network firewall. I didn't realize my router had a firewall. Changing that did the trick!
