SSH Create FTP User Issue

Hello,

I'm pretty new to SSH and such. I can create a FTP user no problem, but the problem is that i want them to have access to only one folder and i want that to be the folder they log into. Whenever i try to set their directory it never lets them log in. Well, whenever i set it to inside my website folders..

I have a v Ded...

I created a ftp user like 3 months ago, that used the Roots uid and that worked, but now i can't find that little tutorial anymore..

so what im using now is..

#useradd -d /var/www/vhosts/website/folder username

and doing this doesn't allow me to log into that user... and yes i did give it a password...

any ideas or suggestions are appreciated... Thanks

Not sure if I can help you, but I will try.

Not sure if you try to connect with ftp, sftp or open a session with ssh.
In all cases, test if the user can access that directory.
Change to the user account and try to change to the directory.
su - user
cd /var/www/vhosts/website/folder

If that works, you should be able to login with the user/pass.
Also try to open a session and see if you have another kind of error.
ssh -vvv user@localhost
In this way you should see where the error is.

If you create a user and is able to login but changing the home directory not, it looks a directory access problem.

okay as much as I understand you need to create ftp only user and restrict their access to one folder on the system.

if so vsftp may solve your problem as it provides you with way to create a virtual user (ftp only user)

there are a number of tutorials on the internet explaining how to setup and install vsftpd find some below:
