smb server/client and trailing dot(s)

OK, I have solved most of the issues regarding special characters and the like regarding samba file sharing. I am currently using a combo of CentOS 4.4, Winxp, Ubuntu Edgy and Feisty. Under the linux side, all shares are mapped with cifs file type and utf8 iocharset. The issue I am now running into is that any trailing dots on filenames or folders created from the clients are automatically removed. If these same folders are created directly on the server (via the linux system on the share, or even renamed to include the trailing dot) then these appear fine. This happens on both linux and windows from the client side.

Anyone else run into this, and has anyone seen any type off work around?
