Can you post the line inside inittab? Don't forget that inittab changes only take effect when you reboot. As far as I know at least. Might be possible to have init read inittab through a SIGHUP but not sure of it.
here's the line from a debian installation
ca:12345:ctrlaltdel:/sbin/shutdown -t1 -a -r now
this would shut the machine down if it would not be for the nasty -r
option. Man pages have this recorded as reboot after shutdown
. So make sure you don't have the -r
option within your inittab line.
