384M RAM, celeron 2GHz.
I need this setup as a light http server for static pages and for the use of blender and lame.
None of these service & applications are going to be used simultaneously.
The machine in question is to be used for developing web pages and then serving them locally to inspect.

Desktop environment is needed for simplicity and ease of use.
the user has minimal experience with linux but has been exposed to debian, knoppix, fedora and freebsd- not linux, I know.

And what is your question? Do you want a recommendation for a distribution to use? If so then Debian is as good as any. You may have poor performance with Blender due to the small amount of memory. You might want to find a lightweight http server instead of using Apache. Use Google to find some candidates.
