Server software advice

Hi,

I want to build a home server with Samba, ftp, etc etc. Which Distro would you guys recommend? Im debating between Ubuntu with Gui, OpenSuse or Fedora.
your advice is greatly appreciated.

CentOS is the right choice assuming you're using it as a genuine server and not expecting to hack video gimmickry and other non-server roles onto it as well. Ubuntu LTS would do well too if you're not familiar with RPM based distros

Don't use fedora, it's not designed for that.

Since you have to ask, CentOS or Ubuntu LTS.

I still recommend CentOS or Ubuntu LTS.

Thank you guys!!! OK, I was using Ubuntu LTS server but with no GUI. Should I install the Desktop edition and just install all the server packages like vsftpd, Samba, etc etc?
Thanks again for your response.

no, you shouldn't. if you need a gui, install it. Servers should not need gui's though.
