Server restarted but uptime shows different output

I have an oracle application server, our application processes got killed suddenly for some reason....when i checked the /var/log/messages this is what is saw:

Oct 9 04:02:05 adc212-ldb syslogd 1.4.1: restart.

But the uptime gives me a different output :

14:47:53 up 42 days, 20:55, 6 users, load average: 0.41, 0.43, 0.72

And last reboot was at :
reboot system boot 2.6.18-194.el5 Sun Aug 28 17:54 (42+20:54)

Did anyone experience anything similar to this ? any reasons why this would happen, would it be a wrong sysctl.conf setting ?

These are my current settings:

When i run sosreport i get the below message.

One or more plugins have detected a problem in your configuration.
Please review the following messages:

* one or more processes are in state D (sosreport might hang)

Please advise, if you have any opinions about this.

Oct 9 04:02:05 adc212-ldb syslogd 1.4.1: restart.
that just says that syslogd was restarted, not that the server was rebooted.

I think that just means syslog got restarted. It happened 4:02am sunday morning, which is the default time for daily cronjobs in /etc/cron.daily. I'd guess it's a result of logrotate, and it stopped syslog so there was no gap in log files during the rotate.

Yes i think so too, probably just the syslogd service was restarted, just fyi.. i think this could be a problem with memory limits setup for oracle user. I setup hard and soft limits for oracle user to only use 90% of the total memory. i am still waiting on red hat support's feedback, will post if they find anything different...
