Server not visible from outside

Actually, I have two problems with the current setup.

One, I can't see any of the shared folders on my network, and can't see the Linux unit from the Windows computers.
Two, the test webpage (ultimately to be changed to a forum, for testing) can't be seen from the internet.

I believe I need to install Samba to resolve the first problem, and any suggestions will be appreciated.

For the second, I am completely lost. I'm not a newbie, I'll have to study to get to that level !

Setup:
I have a running LAN (in Windows) behind a D-Link broadband router, on cable. Everything works fine there, and the server I am setting up on Linux, ran a small Http server program succesfully, so I know the virtual server in the router is correct, and my ISP is not blocking port 80.
The Linux server was set up with Suse 10.2, and loaded Apache 2, PHP 5, and MySQL, all according to the Cool Solutions document by Kevin Millecam that I've seen mentioned here. No PHPMyAdmin yet because of problems configureing (that's the next battle down the road).
Apache, PHP, and MySQL, tested and working.

Browseing //localhost brings the test page properly. Browseing //192.168.0.131 (set static to this unit in router), brings the test page properly.
Either of these in one of the other units in the LAN, fails.
I had a friend try my IP (that the router sees from the outside), and that fails.

Hope that covers everything. Any ideas will be appreciated. I'm sure it's just some minor setting that I am unaware of, but I've read, searched, and tried until I'm blue.

Thanks in advance.

If your behind a dlink router, you need to forward port 80 to your internal address as the router actually has the public IP address assigned to it.

And yes, you need to setup Samba in order to share linux directories, etc.

Thanks for the quick reply trickykid.

I have the router set to forward port 80 calls, called "virtual servers" by D-Link, and am certain that it is functioning properly as I had a Windows program called http server, on the same computer that is now converted to Suse 10.2 linux. It worked flawlessly, other than it's only a temp program to make it easy to share a large file with someone.

I'll put the Samba in, but thought I better wait 'til this part is set, rather than chance compounding problems.

You may also need to open port 80 on the computer itself.
You can do it from YaST2 -> firewall. Or just enter "kdesu /sbin/yast2 firewall" in the application launcher to run the firewall setup module directly.

That was it! Set http service in the firewall, and it came through great.
Thanks,
