Server Crashed, Can't get any information back.

Hello,

I'm new here. I am (or was) running an old Redhat 9.0 server with Raid 0 with 3 drives. At first I was having problems with files being sent to the lost and found, but then suddenly I could not log on. Eventually with the cd I was able to get back on, but now I can't access the directories I want. They didn't exist...so after playing with it again...some how I turned one of the ext to win95. Is this server a lost cause or is there still a way I can get back on it and working enough to get the info off the drives.

Thanks
PEFL

My suggestion would be to stop doing things wrong.

Your server runs Red Hat-9.0 - most servers on Red Hat use RHEL.
Files were being lost by the filesystem; as errors were corrected, stuff ended up in lost+found. Now your discs have sat down, and your operating system is not booting, or letting you in. One of the discs thinks it's a vfat disk? Raid 0 stripes data across disks one & 2, and puts the directory stuff on disk 3. So itś fast to write, but not easy to recover. And you need all three disks.

Here is my advice; If you need the data, give the box to professionals, pay, and hope. Otherwise, think where you want to go from here, as looking after this yourself isn't working very well.

If one your disk in RAID 0 fails, chances of recovery is quite difficult. RAID 0 has no fault tolerance.

But if your Linux files or the Linux OS just messed up due to some corrupted files, chances of recovery is high.

But if you are not sure of what is going on, seek advice from your friends or whoever who can help you more to understand your problem.

Don't try to experiment if you care much about your data, but if you don't go ahead play with it.
