Sendmail stop logging

Hello!

A few days ago I noticed that my sendmail logs /var/log/mail.log & .err stopped logging. Everything else, including auth.log, syslog.log, etc. are working fine.

What is going on and how do I fix this problem?

Thanks a mil!
Murdock

Have you tried the usual ..

- Restart the system logger
- Check for disk fills
- Restart the mail subsystem

Sendmail stops loggin

Hi There,

You might be hitting the 2gb file limit, what is the actual size of the logfile

Interesting point, Sea-Bass. However, all of the mail log files (err, log) stopped exactly at the same exact time and date and none of are near that size.

Thanks again,
Murdock

Logs Logs everywhere and never filling up

Been thinking about this problem for a while now, and the only thing I can think of is that syslog stopped...

Did you ever manage to sort it?

Love to know what it was ..

Hello!

Oh, thank you for your continued efforts. Actually, what caused the whole mess was that another system administrator installed exim4 without telling anyone else. So everything was in fact being logged, but into the exim4 directory.

I know the solution is a bit anti-climactic, but it still had me challenged. Well, at least things are working ok now.

Thanks again,
Murdock
