SendMail
 
Hi..


i am not able to start sendmail service

if i start the service i am getting this error


[root@hccnet root]# service sendmail start

Starting sendmail: 451 4.0.0 /etc/mail/sendmail.cf: line 91: fileclass: cannot open '/etc/mail/local-host-names': World writable directory
451 4.0.0 /etc/mail/sendmail.cf: line 568: fileclass: cannot open '/etc/mail/trusted-users': World writable directory

This topic should be in the Software forum, or ideally the forum for the distribution you are using (since you didn't tell us what that is).

But looking at the error, I would assume that it cannot start because you have your permissions set incorrectly on the configuration files (anyone on the system can write to the files). Not being a sendmail user, I cannot be sure what specifically it wants, but I am sure the documentation for sendmail will tell you.

You probably just need to set the permissions on the directory and it's files to 750 or even 700.
