Basically it comes down to a few things:
- most recipient domains will reject email that originates from a system with a dynamic IP, is allocated from a pool that is classified as dynamic (even if your is static), or is from a pool that is designated as residential.
- you should have the reverse DNS match the forward DNS. This is typically not the case with residential accounts
- being on a spam run time black list
- not having an SPF record, Sender ID, and or Domain keys
- the recipient (hotmail, gmail, earthlink, etc) has a policy of default spam declaration until you contact them to request otherwise, but this will only work if you comply with 1-4 above.
