Question SAMBA3 and LDAP installation difficulties

Hello LQ community,

I am trying to get SAMBA working along with LDAP and am having some difficulties.

The server is using Ubuntu Server 12.10 and is patched completely up to date at the time of writing this.

I have installed webmin and all necessary LDAP modules and when using the LDAP Client module to validate LDAP configuration I get the following:

Finding LDAP base for users ..
.. found base dc=MEADOWVIEW,dc=LOCAL.

Connecting to LDAP server ..
.. connected to brains

Searching for users ..
.. no users found under base dc=MEADOWVIEW,dc=LOCAL.

So I have tried to make a new user within the LDAP Users and Groups module but keep getting the following message:

Failed to save user : Failed to add user to LDAP database : objectClass: value #4 invalid per syntax

So I have been trying to follow:

https://help.ubuntu.com/12.10/server...amba-ldap.html

I have gotten down to #2 in the samba schema section but cannot understand what they are asking and I cannot also locate schema_convert.conf.

Can anyone help guide me through completing the installation and successfully creating a new user and group?

I have had to blat the server and reinstall everything to convert from fake raid to MDADM software RAID. I will get the server back up and running and will then create a VM to test SAMBA4 to see if it is at all easier to set up with centralised user directory.

I will post a new thread if I continue to struggle. I will close this thread.
