Samba Trust Problems On a Specific Interface

Hey All,

This is my first post in a forum ever, so please feel free to help me refine my post. We seem to be having an odd, interface specific problem with a one of our Samba servers.

Samba_Server is a Linux RHEL 4.9 member server in a Windows domain, DOM.COM. It has a primary network interface connecting it to the domain, but it also has a private, point to point network connection to another server in the domain, which we can call Windows_Server.

The private link has a typical 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2 IP scheme. On the windows server, we simply add a hosts file entry for "Samba_Server.private" to resolve to 192.168.1.2 to allow users to access the private link.

The samba server is set to domain mode security, and domain users can access the samba shares without a problem. However, whenever a user tries to access the samba server over the dedicated link, we get a "Trust Relationship failed between this workstation and the domain" error.

I *can* access the shares if I map a share with a Linux user and an associated smbpasswd/TDB password.

We have this set up in another building working in exactly the same manner without a problem.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance for the help! I'll try to post my smb.conf file soon.

Hi Kodak1138,

Welcome to LQ!!!

To start with yes we need smb.conf file from this linux server and from the other linux server which works fine in different building. In addition I would also like to have a look at routing table of both the servers. It is possible that the server in other building works fine because you have setup forwarding/routing of packets received on private interface to your domain interface.

It will be good if you can compare the iptables rules (if any) on both linux systems.

It's been a while but the problem is still here. I'll try to grab the smb.conf file in the next day or so.

There's actually only one Samba server, all of the other machines are Windows. All the machines in the room are connected to the domain, and can access Samba shares without a problem. A few of the servers, though, have direct connections to the samba server. It's when we try to access a samba share over that interface that we get a Trust error.
