[SOLVED] samba: session setup failed: Call returned zero bytes (EOF)

I've run samba on Mandriva for almost a year without problems. Now the shares are not seen from Windows. Here's my config:
Code:
[yg@serveur ~]$ cat /etc/mandriva-release
Mandriva Linux release 2007.0 (Official) for i586
[yg@serveur ~]$ uname -a
Linux serveur.local 2.6.17-5mdv #1 SMP Wed Sep 13 14:32:31 EDT 2006 i686 Pentium III (Coppermine) GNU/Linux
[yg@serveur ~]$ rpm -qa | grep -Ei 's.?mb'
samba-common-3.0.23d-2.1mdv2007.0
samba-server-3.0.23d-2.1mdv2007.0
samba-client-3.0.23d-2.1mdv2007.0
libsmbclient0-3.0.23d-2.1mdv2007.0
[yg@serveur ~]$ testparm -s /etc/samba/smb.conf
Load smb config files from smb.conf
Processing section "[homes]"
Processing section "[Divers]"
Processing section "[Backup]"
Loaded services file OK.

(/etc/samba/user.map is an empty file)
When I try and connect to the shares using smbfs on a Linux workstation, I see the contents of each.
When I try and connect with Windows, I get:
Code:
Une erreur s'est produite lors de la reconnexion de B: à \\aaa.bb.ccc.dd\Divers
Réseau Microsoft Windows : Le nom réseau spécifié n'est plus disponible.
Cette connexion n'a pas été restaurée.
which translates to
Code:
An error occured while connecting B: back to \\aaa.bb.ccc.dd\Divers
Microsoft Windows Network : The specified network-name is not available any more.
This connection was not restored.
On the server itself, when I try
Code:
smbclient -L host
whatever the host (localhost, 127.0.0.1, aaa.bb.ccc.dd, serveur), and with or without the -I switch, I always get this error:
Code:
session setup failed: Call returned zero bytes (EOF)
Previously samba worked nice for Windows workstations. Problems started when I added a new user to the system, and then ran an automatic conversion from Unix users to Samba users using Webmin.
From then on, smbd dumped a core whenever I tried to start it, until I rebooted the server machine. Now there are no core dumps, and the Linux workstation sees the contents of the shares. But Windows workstations can't.

I run a daily backup of /etc. Here's the diff of the samba dir:
Code:
[root@serveur ~]# diff -r /.backup/day\=2007-09-10_20.30/etc/samba /etc/samba
diff -r /.backup/day=2007-09-10_20.30/etc/samba/smbpasswd /etc/samba/smbpasswd

(Note that I tried changing my own passwd with smbpasswd to see if that changed anything; it did not...)

Please help!

Yves.

I've just seen that cores are created after all. Not at the start of the daemon, but each time the daemon is accessed by smbclient. The daemon still lives, though... but does not work

Solved. I upgraded the whole machine from Mandriva 2007.0 to Mandriva 2007.1. Now all is fine, and without a reboot which is nice for a server.

Yves.
