i've got a directory with permissions 660. uid=root and gid=users. i can mount in fstab without any issue other than the directory shows on every desktop user but only those in gid=users can access and write. i'm writing a script in .kde/autostart to smbmount the directory. it won't work. as i said, i can mount in fstab without an issue but i can't smbmount it. each user can smbmount other directories that belong to them with no problem but not this shared rw drive. do i need to set sticky bit in order to smbmount? i want to run it from a script on login if possible only. can it be done?

I'm connecting to a linkstation NAS. My smb.conf has nothing to do with it. As I said, I can mount in fstab without an issue using:

//server/share /share/directory smbfs with various options including fmask and dmask so it'll work

It has to do with the mount directory having root owner. i have it set with group rw permissions but when i do a smbmount, it won't let me mount it because i think it's related to the directory being root owner. Because this is a network share with multiple users, i have the group set to "users" with rw and the users accessing be in that group. but the smbmount won't work and gives me a "failed 1" error. I know it's related to the mount directory being owner root.
