Samba issue

everything was working fine until yesterday and for no reason samba has stopped working
i have checked the configuragtion 100 times and everything's ok
i have disabled firewall rules
and logwatch sends me the following:

--------------------- samba Begin ------------------------

**Unmatched Entries**
nmbd/nmbd_namequery.c:query_name(245) query_name: Failed to send packet trying
to query name WORKGROUP<1d> : 288 Time(s)
nmbd/nmbd_packets.c:send_netbios_packet(163) send_netbios_packet: send_packet()
to IP 10.0.0.255 port 137 failed : 288 Time(s)

---------------------- samba End -------------------------

which i have no idea what is :P
anyone knows anything about this?

i have also noticed that everything is very slow
i give iptables -L
and it takes about 8 secs to give me the output(line by line)
cpu times are at 0 so it's not a matter of cpu usage

if iptables -L takes an age and a half to complete, that can be down to DNS resolution.

As I bet that if you run iptables -L -n (-n remove the DNS resolution) it will display the result in a sec.

So maybe check the DNS first...

Even if I do not know how DNS could impact your samba settings ...

BTW what are you doing with your samba? File sharing / domain control??

thanks for the reply gael
i use samba only for filesharing
and indeed it is a dns issue
i just don't understand the reason
i run my own named(bind)
if i stop the service it works great

but why would something like that be happening
also when i stop the service it takes more than 1min to be stopped

do you know anything about this?
