Samba and file permissions

I instaled my Samba server to acces the files on my server from Windows or from Linux.

But I have a problem.

If I create a file when I'm on windows and after I open it in linux I dont have the permission to write on it. I need to change the permission.

Same thing if I create a file when I'm on Linux and after I open it in Windows.

Can you help me please?

Thanks!

Are you using different usernames on the Linux and Windows computers?

Search Google for Samba and "force user" and "create mask" for the options.

You can set the owner of a file will be created with with "force user". Same for group with "force group".

You can set the read/write/execute permissions with "create mask".

Different user

Yes I was using different user name.

How to change user name in Windows XP?

If I use "Control Panel" "Modify user" it only change the user name for the login screen it still give the old user name to file owner.

When you map the samba drive in Windoze, there is an option to use a different id. Click that and user your linux id. You will also have to add your linux id to the samba users id list.
