Root logout kills users' Eclipse processes

Hello all, I was recently placed as the new student Linux admin for my school, so I'll probably be on here a lot more in the future.

We are using ESXi (fantastic for a relatively noob admin) to run a couple different virtual servers. The server in question is running suse 11. VMware infrastructure client is used for root access, and all other users use freeNX. I doubt any of that is relevant, but fwiw.

The problem is that when I log out of root, all users' Eclipse processes are killed. This might effect other processes, but everything else I had open (KDE sys guard, konqueror, and konsole) kept running just fine. I have a feeling that it has something to do with the way the application was distributed to users (that I probably did it wrong), by installing it as root then adding an application link to /etc/skel/
The link has the command: '/usr/share/eclipse/eclipse' and permissions 644 with root as owner/group.

Do you see the problem, or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Thanks in advance
