I have been trying to implement RHN satellite server 5.5 on RHEL 6.3. For implementation, i have read the "Red_Hat_Network_Satellite-5.5-Installation_Guide-en-US
I have the required certificate which i got from REDHAT just for practice purpose. I didnt purchase that so i dont have support.
I have 2 systems; 1 for satellite server and 1 for client. Hope 2 systems will be sufficient for satellite server implementation.
Initially i am not registering the server system with the RHN account so i am installing it with the "disconnected mode".
Here is what i have done so far:
1. Mount the ISO on some directory.
2. go into that dir.
3. run the command:
If you have internet connectivity and system is registered with account:
If you don't have internet connectivity:
# ./install.pl --disconnected
4. During installation it will ask for:
> satellite certificate. Give the path.
> Admin account and its email id
> required info for CA
5. Sendmail configuration. (I configured it and got some mails too from the server to my mail id.)
6. Access RHN satellite server web GUI page.
Do the initial configuration.
7. Restart the satellite server after initial configuration from its web GUI.
8. Download the Channel content ISO "rhn-export-rhel-x86_64-6-20130315.0-01
" (4GB) out of total 13 discs.
9. Sync the satellite:
If you have direct internet connection and if the system is registered:
If you don't have internet connection and you are syncing the server from downloaded media of channel content ISO
# satellite-sync -c rhel-i386-as-3 --mount-point /var/rhn-sat-sync
1. Install the server trusted SSL certificate by command:
# rpm -Uvh http://proxy-or-sat.example.com/pub/...-ssl-cert-VER-
2. Edit the conf file "/etc/sysconfig/rhn/up2date
" to connect to the satellite server.
3. Register client sytem to the server by running command:
By doing this, i was able to import the channel-1 into the server (from its disc-1, channel content ISO).
and i was also able to register the client system in the satellite server.
But what i dont understand is that why it is showing 0(zero) packages in the imported channel as in the snapshot-1.
I am also unable to update the yum at client side.
When i run the command "# yum update" at client side, i get this:
[root@client1 ~]# yum update
Loaded plugins: product-id, refresh-packagekit, rhnplugin, security,
Updating certificate-based repositories.
Unable to read consumer identity
There was an error parsing the RHN proxy settings.
RHN Satellite or RHN Classic support will be disabled.

If i am missing something or if i am doing something wrong, please tell me.
Thanks in advance.
