Restrict download of file of certain size using squid.

Hello all,

I have got a squid server working on RHEL5. And I have an internet connection that gives me the download of 16gb a month. Since couple of months I have seen some huge downloads that nearly crossed the available download amount. I need some solution by which I can restrict the users from downloading files or folders that are bigger than certain size say 20mb. Is this possible in squid and if yes what are the possible ways.

Yes, it's possible. Check out the reply_body_max_size option for squid.

Thanks a lot. The other thing that would be helpful, is there any way to log the amount of internet bandwidth used by the clients so that I can know how much of the total bandwidth,i.e. 16gb that I have monthly, is used and where is it being used predominantly?

There are many squid reporting tools...Google can help you find them.

I have already gone through that page but I dont seem to understand much. The howto link does not have anything in english. I did go through sample reports link and that is what I want. I just need some info on how to generate that page. i tried but it did not work. Do I need to configure apache for that? Anyone who has already worked with sarg...please help.

If you've already read the docs, you'd know that you have to have Apache going. As I've said...there are lots of links on Google that have lots of HowTo's, and the documentation on Sarg IS in english.
