I am having many mails transferred through my Sendmail server, so I want to configure it not to allow more than 60 mails to be sent by my sendmail server per minute. Please help me to optimize my mail server's configuration.
What OS, what version of sendmail?
How did you calculate 60 messages a minute is your current limit?
Stuart.
My mail server version is sendmail-8.13.8-2.el5 & OS is RHEL-5.3 64 Bit.
I have not calculated the mails rather I want to put this restriction on my mail server. We are having another shared hosted mail server on lunarpages.com & that server has put up 60 mails per minute limit. The same I want to implement on my local sendmail server.
I couldn't see any limit ability in /etc/mail/sendmail.cf, although there are alot of other limits in the file. Can you check the lunarpages.com installation to see the sendmail.cf file and take that attribute across?

Our lunarpages.com server is shared server & we only have access to GUI, so I can't see these details.
I don't think you can do this with sendmail, qmail seems to have an actual facility to limit a specific numbers of emails delivered (in or out) per minute/hour/day. Sendmail has a limit on the amount of bandwidth, children, memory it can use. I guess you can just turn these down low and then push them up to reach the optimum value.
