Resource for Analysis, Problem Determination and Troubleshooting
Hi,
I was hoping if someone could point me in a direction to some good resources on problem determination and troubleshooting in linux. |
IMHO this is a seriously good question and one that seldom gets the attention it deserves. IMHO a lot of people would benefit from being more methodical about things. If you punch terms like "problem determination methodology" and "troubleshooting methodology" in your favorite search engine you should end up with texts like for example:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troubleshooting http://en.wikibooks.org/w/index.php?...ecial%3ASearch http://www.isa.org/Template.cfm?Sect...le=ACF3C22.pdf http://www.inetdaemon.com/tutorials/...c_method.shtml What they all have in common is a methodical approach, meaning that by applying structure and by examining each compartment, component, section or step in a certain order you confirm or eliminate that part of the equation and by doing so refine things and isolate the problem. |
Hmmm, I put the words "systematic approach to problem solving" into my favourite search engine (dogpile, currently) and it looks as if all the results on the first page are results that I should have read; more for the to-do list.
I suppose subsequent pages are likely to give good results, too... |
