What would reasonable speed expectations be for iSCSI (software initiator)?
Gig for gig speeds close to that Fibre Channel? Better? Worse? I ask because my numbers are coming back very odd, and I'm wondering if they indicate any sort of setup problem.
The read speeds I'm seeing for 1GB iSCSI are all over 72% of what I see for 4GB FC, but for write speeds I'm seeing between 11% down to 0.1% .
I know all systems and setups are different, so to put it in context, I tested on a server with local hardware RAID, 2x 4GB FC HBAs and a dedicated 1GB ethernet port for iSCSI.
The FC connection is multipathed round-robin using the native device-mapper-multipath tools.
Unfortunately I'm running CentOS 4.8, so I can't multipath on iSCSI.
I ran iozone against the local raid, the FC mount and the iSCSI mount all the same way:
iozone -r 8k -g8G -+u -Ra
(posting the 4gig lines, since I'm still waiting on it to finish the 8gig on the iscsi mount)
Code:
