Qemu segfault on W2k and W2k3 (havent tried any other os)

Hello,

A few weeks back ive tried to install Qemu on my FreeBSD (V7) server. Which worked without any hussle, altho not as expected. I gave up on this for a few weeks hoping that a new port should solve it, apperently it doesnt. Maybe you people know what im doing wrong.

As ive said before, my server has FreeBSD 7 installed. Im using Qemu from the ports tree (0.9.1-9), I havent build the kqemu-kmod since it should be already in the Qemu package (can be enabled by using "make config"). This kqemu module loads nicely with kldload.

Quote:
kqemu version 0x00010300
kqemu: KQEMU installed, max_locked_mem=1018776kB.
Right now the installation should be ok and usable by any user on this system. With a user ive created an filesystem for qemu to use. I always use qemu-img and not dd.

Quote:
qemu-img create -f [format] W2k3.format 4G
Ive tried various formats already including qcow, qcow2 and vmdk aswell as different sizes from 4 GB to 40 GB.

Now it is time to install Windows, I want either Windows 2000 or Windows 2003. Nonetheless, they both seem to segfault at the same process. Both commands to start the installation are slightly different due to the "-win2k-hack" and sound/network drivers, this is why i use a basic command just to show how it also segfaults, without all the sound/network and what not.

Quote:
qemu -m 512 -boot d -cdrom ./W2k3.iso -hda ./W2k3.format -localtime
With this command the installation starts with Windows 2003, Everything seems fine since it boots and installs and leaves the dos modes to reboot for the nice gui modes. The gui modes boots and you get the normal name/key questions. When its nearly finished it segfaults back to the terminal. On Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 it segfaults after processing "Registering Components", Ive tried to backtrace the qemu.core with gdb without success.

Ive tried the installation in various ways, changing the filesystem format, changing the filesystem size, recompiling qemu WITHOUT kqemu, unloaded kqemu, tried older qemu-0.9.0. It all seems to crash on the same .

Maybe someone has any suggestions on what i could try to fix this issue?

Again after a long time of searching i came across a post wich was almost the same as me, only he was using debian. It did crash at the same time, he recompiled his kernel to a newer version and the problem went away.

Ofcourse this isnt so easy on FreeBSD, Even i made a little mistake last night. I pulled the new -STABLE kernel from the stable-cvsup and began building the world and kernel. All worked well, installed the kernel, booted to single usermode, merged my etc to the new kernel and installed the whole new world.

In fact i was kind of surprised to see "FreeBSD 7.1-PRERELEASE" pop up since i pulled the stable CVS, nevertheless the system booted and is active for a day, no problems yet.

I removed and recompiled both qemu and kqemu-kmod from the ports to fit the new kernel. Qemu boots, W2k3 boots, Did i really solve it? After a long wait for the installation process it finaly came to "Registering Components" and it just went on! Now im having a fully working Qemu with Kqemu wich installs W2k and W2k3!

Hope this helps other people with the same problem, altho i wouldnt suggest planting 7.1-PRERELEASE on there.
