proFTP and Joomla on intranet.. Debian 5.

Hi

got joomla almost completely setup on Debian 5.. its for testing over a local network, like an intranet.

Used the debian howto for joomla, which was incomplete, and some other tweaks to get as far as the install page, got php and apache and mysql set up ok..

then came the ftp server.. joomla cant find the path to it.
i cant find any info at all on this.. yet most ISPs i know that allow joomla have linux servers, so cant be too hard...
i am getting an xml error message when i click on automatically find, then it goes to the end page, 'remove install folder' so i cant go back and experiment.

anyone out there done this successfully? any pointers on the proftp server setup?

thank you.

The advice from Joomla was to ignore the FTP element and just upload using PHP.
I'll do this for now, but will revisit FTP when I am a bit more competent!
