Problems with Tomcat6 in Eclipse

Hi everybody,

since I could not find a thread solving or even talking about my problem, I started a new one.

Ok, I will describe the situation/problem:

I use Ubuntu 10.4 and set up a tomcat6 server. Tomcat6 was installed using Synaptic. Further have I 'installed' Eclipse, by downloading it and extracting it in /opt/Eclipse.

The IDE and the server work fine. Now I want to use Eclipse to develop webapplications. Therefore I have to tell the IDE where the installation directory of tomcat is, and setup a server in Eclipse.

Because I used Synaptic Manager to install the server, there is not a real installation directory, because linux distributes the files of tomcat according to it's directory structure.

I read a post somewhere in a forum, where somebody explained how he fixed the problem: He created a directory called 'tomcat' in the /opt folder. In this folder, he created some links to all the stuff, Eclipse needs. The problem is, that this was concerning tomcat5.5 and the files and folders linked to, aren't all present in my (suggested) installation folder (/usr/share/tomcat6).

I could not find a solution for tomcat6, unfortunately. I think, I can solve it by deinstalling tomcat6 via the Synaptic Manager, and download the files from apache.org and unpack them all in /opt. But I want to keep the installation, because I learned that it's always better to do installations via the manager, if it's possible (a reason was updating installations).

So, that's it. Does anyone have some experience with this situation or some hints... maybe a solution?

Thanks in anticipation for all answers!

Regards Gaahl.

Well,

nobody knows the problem or an answer to it? Unfortunately, me neither...

I decided to deinstall tomcat6 via Synaptic Manager and unpacked the latest version on my own in one folder. Now it works at least and I can go on developing and studying...

For all those who found this thread with hope to solve their problem like mine:
Sorry for only solving the problem this way..

Regards Gaahl
