Problematic Fedora Core 5? SMB / vSFTPd issues.

I recently installed FC5. It has been problematic from the start. I have been fighting with it to get vSFTPd and SMB to get it up and running. I have checked the configuration of both applications and neither one is resulting in anything. SMB will report that the server is there, but when I try to log in, it keeps coming back up with the login screen. vSFPTd keeps reporting "500 OOPS: cannot change directory:/home/" Could someone please give me some pointers?

Thanks
