Problem setting up printer i Ubuntu 7.04 (Server)

Hi!
I´ve been trying to set up Konica Minolta PagePro 1300W printer. I´ve installed cupsys and cupsys-client. I´m using the printer wizard (localhost:631/admin) but there´s just 5 different printers to choose from (and mine isn´t one of them, in fact no Konica Minolta printer is in the list). Is there a way to add more printers to this list?

Red face Try anyone..and hope it works !

Try anyone from the 5 Konicas until you see it works..even if some printers are not listed, usually they use the same chipsets and drivers of other ones coming from the same brand and sometimes from other brands but having the same chipsetr ...if they don't work, take a look at linuxprinting.org

Ciao !

Thanks for the suggestion. However, no Konica printer is listed. When I used Ubunutu server 6.10 there were several more printers to choose from. I seems strange that a newer version supports fewer printers. I still wonder if I've missed something when installing cups since there is only 5 printer manufacturers to choose from in the list.

Question Are you sure ?

Uhm..strange..are you sure you haven't done troubles ?

I use both ubuntu 7.04 and ubuntu studio 7.04 and haven't printer troubles

maybe try uninstalling and reinstalling several times cups by source instead than by packet manager and see how it goes, before and after you could do a check for deps by dpkg

i use an old canon i455 and have no problems

Let me know how it goes

Ciao !

Hi!
I have uninstalled cupsys and cupsys-client and then reinstalled again. Still just five printer to choose from in the list (and no Konica or Minolta). I´m using Ubuntu 7.04 in my laptop too (desktop version) and there were no problems installing the printer through the GUI. I can´t see why the server version doesn´t support the printer when the desktop version does.

Just check that out from the command line. Do a

Code:
lpinfo -v
You can check the driver whether they are installed it. If it is not listed that just get it from http://www.linuxprinting.org.

Code:
lpinfo -m
And later on add the printer using lpadmin.

Solved!

Hi!
I found a tutorial I never saw before: http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/O...DriverPackages.

After installing lsb, foomatic-filters, fhs-printingdirs-0.2-1lsb3.1.noarch.rpm and finally min12xxw-0.0.9-3lsb3.1.i486.rpm the printer showed up when running the CUPS web interface.
