PPTP (Poptop) has slow and unstable connection speed - bad MTU and MRU settings?

I'm having really bad speeds using Poptop on my Centos 6 64 bit VPS. I get to 3mbps download but the connection is unstable. I think it is related to the MTU and MRU settings.

What I've done so far:

Added this to /etc/ppp/options.pptpd

Code:
nopcomp
noaccomp
mtu 1400
mru 1400
default-asyncmap
Changed this in /etc/pptpd.conf

Code:
localip EXTERNALIP
remoteip 10.0.0.100-199
(Note: there's also an OpenVPN service running on 10.8.0.0/24 & 10.8.1.0/24)

Added this to /etc/ppp/ip-up

Code:
/sbin/ifconfig $1 mtu 1400
ifconfig:

Code:
ppp0 Link encap:Point-to-Point Protocol
          inet addr:31.220.5.231 P-t-P:10.0.0.100 Mask:255.255.255.255

          RX packets:120692 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:110811 errors:0 dropped:1318 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
          RX bytes:62623777 (59.7 MiB) TX bytes:49257777 (46.9 MiB)

venet0:0 Link encap:UNSPEC HWaddr 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00
          inet addr:***** P-t-P:****** Bcast:****** Mask:255.255.255.255
UP BROADCAST POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MTU:1400 Metric:1
It says "dropped:1318" in "venet0". Maybe this is a problem?

How can I resolve the speed issues and get a stable connection? Thanks in advance!
