Postfix returned emails log
 

On our mailing server is there a way to log returned email address and the return code/reason to text file so I can make a note of these addresses and remove them from the database

Most mail servers are going to reject it at mail time and you can see that in your logs. You could make a filter or something similar for mail coming from mailer daemon and redirect it elsewhere and process it for information on a regular basis.
