Postfix - male name setup problem

Hello, can someone help me with postfix configuration. I am following a step-by-step installation of a mail server, here, on Ubuntu 13.04 server. My knowledge of this is very basic and I will confess that I have add several goes at trying to get a mail server up and running. So far I have set up postfix and carried out a test. The name of the server did not come back as I would have expected. I expect it to come back with "mail.merciadragon.net" I have looked at all the postfix files but I cannot see where it is getting the machine name and local domain name from./etc/mailname = mail.merciadragon.net
Code:
robert@LittleDragon:~$ telnet mail.merciadragon.net smtp
Trying 81.151.128.23...
Connected to merciadragon.net.
Escape character is '^]'.
220 LittleDragon.localdomain ESMTP Postfix
HELO mail.merciadradon.net
250 LittleDragon.localdomain
I think that what happened when I installed postfix and ran the initial installation script the machine name and local domain name were there I just added the mail server name and perhaps this is where I have gone wrong but I don't know where to find it to change it. I am reluctant to re-run the configuration in case it upsets all the other settings that I have spent several hours doing.

Any help would be appreciated.

Robert…

Hi

I'm not 100% sure what your question is but I'll have a go and giving some guidance.

The part that emails come from is called myorigin in main.cf so you want to adjust that variable or assign it a static value.

The part where Postfix receives mail for your domain(s) is called mydestination in main.cf.

Perhaps if you could elaborate more then someone could be of better assistance.

Sorry if I wasn't that clear, but you have answered my question also it was seem. I have add a number of issues which as cause me to bring the whole server down for a few days. I am now going to start again and hopefully things should go more smoothly at this time.
