POP mail client not working

Sendmail is working fine in Fedora 8 . I have tested send mail locally and getting mails locally in /var/spool/mail/user . But I tried through Evolution mail client for pop client . Its getting authentication error . I just changed in /etc/dovecot.conf file " protocols = pop3 ". Telnet to the port is OK . No firewall .

I have a question ..... I want to redirect mails from user@localhost.localdomain to user@localdomain

If these two mail addresses are at the same server, use file /etc/aliases
Otherwise, ~/.forward should work.

Can I put in /etc/aliases file with domain name. Because in that file as per example showing like amal : root
But I want all mail coming to amal@server1.test.com should go to amal@test.com. Send the mail to just amal@test.com. But its not working. I have to sent mail to amal@server1.test.com .Thats the problem . I want to avoid the "server1" hostname.

should I make any special entry in Sendmail.mc file .
