Password conversion ... or any other advice

Hi guys!
I have the following problem:
In the near future, I want to migrate all my users from email based on UNIX accounts to virtual mailbox accounts (postfix)
I will be using CRAM-MD5 password encryption (3e43c766db998893c219a39d4c...etc)

Well my problem is that all my user's passwords are /etc/shadow style passwords. Is there some way I can convert those passwords (most likely not) and if not, any other advice that you could give me to solve this problem? Thank you !

I don't understand the need for the conversion, but the pwunconv command will stick the users' passwords back in the the passwd file.

I would use this if I were going to reinstall Linux or move all of the user accounts to another machine. I don't understand why changing mail agents requires this.

I'm affraid you didn't understand.

1. I'm not changing the MTA. Right now I have postfix configured for UNIX accounts. In the near future I will configure it for virtual mailboxes (WITHOUT SQL).

2. I use dovecot for imap/pop3 and if I use the exact same passwords from /etc/shadow, authentication with virtual mailboxes is VERY SLOW. For some reason, when using virtual mailboxes, dovecot only likes CRAM-MD5.

So, back to my original question: is there an EASY way to convert the /etc/shadow passwords to CRAM-MD5?
