Hey Mario,
I stumbled across this post as I was googling for answers. I am the same one who started that thread over at the CentOS forums and thought I would drop in to say that the conversation is still on-going. I still don't have a fully functional build from a new kernel. I am also finding a good number of discrepancies in various documentation that I found related to perfctr/papi and so far out of all the other places I have gone to for help the CentOS forum is the only one who has responded (Not that I am knocking this forum. I mean no disrespect...but it has been 7 days without anyone responding to your post which probably means there are not a lot of perfctr/papi experts around here either).

I have successfully used the Fedora guide (9? 10? can't remember) to get perfctr working and the Debian guide worked almost copy and paste. However, I did that just as a test and trying to get it working on CentOS is still on going. If you can switch your system to one of those distros, you might give them a try.

So as I discover new information or I figure out how to get around every roadblock I come across I am updating that forum as well as the blog posting listed in my posts over there. I made an update today actually fixing yet another error I had in my process. It still isn't perfect, but I am working on it.

I will be more then happy to share information that I have, but if you read the other forum and the blog post then you pretty much have the sum total of my experiences thus far. If you have managed to progress any and are willing to share, please drop me a line. I would greatly appreciate it.

PS. Shhhwweeet! My account still exists even though my last login was "02-18-07 at 06:03 PM". Heh. Sorry, I just find that pretty nifty.
