Not able to login,account not getting unlocked


HI,

Not able to login to a user account, even after clearing the password from root using passwd -d

[root@ivrsdb1_pnq /]# passwd -S oracle
Password locked.
[root@ivrsdb1_pnq /]# passwd -u -f oracle
Unlocking password for user oracle.
passwd: Success.
[root@ivrsdb1_pnq /]# passwd -d oracle
Removing password for user oracle.
passwd: Success
[root@ivrsdb1_pnq /]# passwd -S oracle
Password locked.
[root@ivrsdb1_pnq /]# su - oracle
su: incorrect password
[root@ivrsdb1_pnq /]# lusermod -U --unlock oracle
[root@ivrsdb1_pnq /]# su - oracle
su: incorrect password
[root@ivrsdb1_pnq /]# passwd -S oracle
Password locked.
[root@ivrsdb1_pnq /]#

/etc/passwd entry:
oracle:x:502:505::/home/oracle:/bin/bash
/etc/shadow entry:
oracle::14831:0:45:7:::
/etc/group entry:
oinstall:x:505:
/etc/gshadow entry:
oinstall:!::

Hi,

It looks like you unlocked and deleted the password but never set the new password to use (you cannot log in when no password is set).

Unlock: passwd -u oracle
Delete: passwd -d oracle
Set new password: passwd oracle (enter new pwd twice).

Login should now be possible.

BTW: I'm not sure why you want to use the delete password option. Unlocking it should give you access again with the current password.

Tried setting up the passwd initially but didnt work

Finally i recreated the user and it is working now
