nis ypxfrd not getting started

hi all
i am trying to configure NIS server in my RHEL5 machine

while i am trying to starting ypxfrd service it gives OK message

[root@node1 ~]# service ypxfrd start
Starting YP map server: [ OK ]
[root@node1 ~]#
[root@node1 ~]#

but when i am checking its status
it showing stopped
[root@node1 ~]# service ypxfrd status
rpc.ypxfrd is stopped
[root@node1 ~]#

why it is like this??

is this service is neccessary to work NIS?

pls clarrify..

You need to know what you're doing before you try to do it.

Have you configured ypxfrd? Have you tried to run it manually and see the log output? Do you even want ypxfrd because I'm not sure you know what it's for.

Many simple setups don't have slave NIS servers.
