NIS authenticates, NFS /home 10 digit owner and group (ICEauth problem)

I'm setting up an school lab server for 35 hosts (I've done this before) NFS and NIS are working but users logging into the hosts can't access their home directories at the GUI login, I got the “Could not update ICEauthority file /srv/home/username.ICEauthority.”

However I can login and access user home directories at the command line. I do have an anomaly I can't explain the mounted server home directory and all subdirectories have the same 10 digit owner and group ID when I issue a long listing command.

I am assuming I am either mounting or exporting the server home directories improperly. My server export file line is:
/srv/home 10.41.120.0/24(rw,sync,root_squash,no_subtree_check)

my client fstab line is:
10.41.120.5:/srv/home /srv/home nfs rw,hard,intr,rsize=4096,wsize=4096 0 0

I've never had this issue before.

10 digit id does seem odd. Also, shouldn't a user's home path be /srv/home/user/.ICEauthority ie each user has their own(!) home dir?
This may also help for NIS & NFS HOWTO / debug ptrs http://www.linuxhomenetworking.com/
