Need info about grub.conf

Hi,

I need some info about grub.conf file.

There are two lines

kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-71.el6.i686

initrd /boot/initramfs-2.6.32-71.el6.i686.img

initrd /initrd-2.4.9-21.img

can you tell me why they are used for ?

And also tell me why its under /boot

The vmlinuz-* files are kernels. The initrd-* files are initial ram disk files which contain programs, modules and scripts needed to boot the system. Before the file systems are mounted, the Linux system is contained in ram. After mounting, this memory is freed. Since these files are used for booting the system, it makes sense to call the directory boot.

One would think that if you needed info, you would;
i) read the doco
ii) spend some time searching.

Then when you can frame relevant questions we might be able to help with answers.
