Eric long time..i know. Been busy working on a Lotus Notes to Exchange 2007 migration it's getting to crunch time on that. Ok, so i checked out the groundwork community edition you mentioned never heard of it before. Looks like it got some neat tools already. I am going to install that version on a separate box and see how it compares to the standalone install i have now of nagios. Won't be too hard to switch my current machines over i am thinking. I will let you know how that is going and also there will be more questions of course. Putting in the Fedora CD as I type.......

I used to work a lot with Nagios until I encountered that GroundWork Community edition. I recently upgraded to the latest version (6.0) and it's great in my opinion. You have to take into account that in comparison to the Nagios 'standalone' version it needs a lot more as minimal configuration. I have it running on a virtual server with Debian 5 installed, two virtual cpu's and 4Gb RAM and it runs great. Before the upgrade I had only 1 cpu and 2Gb RAM.

Also if you have a machine to test the clean install and see if you like it, that's great. If you like it then you can either upgrade your existing Nagios installation (fully automated) or import your Nagios settings in the clean install of Groundwork.

I for one find it very relieving after the config files in Nagios, not only for the ease of use but also since I had to teach a colleague all about Nagios. Since it was his first 'encounter' with Linux too I didn't want to overwhelm the guy to much.:D

There really is no comparison in my opinion, which you'll soon notice also. Nagios is still there, the same as the standalone. In Groundwork it's only integrated in a lot of more tools, like the visual effects, the JBoss environment to create and link your own pages. In my opinion Groundwork just adds a lot of value to Nagios, not without the cost of needed resources, but it's worth it in my opinion.

Only to think about the web interface to copy/create commands, services, hosts, all in one place instead of having to code in different config files for Nagios, in my opinion makes it a very interesting tool.

Hey Eric, how you doing? It's been awhile hope you had a good holiday season, happy and rewarding new year to you and yours. Ok, now I have to confess that i have setup groundwork and am loving it. Still there is some learning required but looks good. I have messed up though and I am hoping you know how to help out here. I did not create additional users yet so only the admin user as i was still migrating my standalone Nagios config. However, i decided i wanted to check out the various views and i changed the view for the admin account that worked a little too well..lol. Now, I can't administer since those tabs no longer appear. So, my question is there a config file i can edit to get back the default admin view? HELP!....
