MYSQL Unknown system variable

Hi,

While I was trying to improve mysql performance, I tried to increase innodb_log_file_size

Code:
mysql> SHOW variables like "%innodb_log%";
+---------------------------+---------+
| Variable_name             | Value   |
+---------------------------+---------+
| innodb_log_arch_dir       |         |
| innodb_log_archive        | OFF     |
| innodb_log_buffer_size    | 1048576 |
| innodb_log_file_size      | 5242880 |
| innodb_log_files_in_group | 2       |
| innodb_log_group_home_dir | ./      |
+---------------------------+---------+
6 rows in set (0.00 sec)

mysql> SET innodb_log_file_size='1048576';
ERROR 1193 (HY000): Unknown system variable 'innodb_log_file_size'
so mysql can see innodb_log_file_size, but i can't change it this error applied to any innodb_log*

what's wrong?

I "think" you cannot set these varaiables during runtime.
You could try editing your my.cnf file.

This may seem like a simple qn, but are you actually using the Innodb engine by default in your my.conf. iirc, MySQL used to default to MyISAM files/engine if no engine was set in the conf file.
