Mysql - is it possible to test for locked tables?

I want to see, in action, that a mysqldump does not lock any tables, before I try it on production.

Can anyone explain how to set up a demonstration? E.G, create script that constantly writes into mysql table, run mysqldump, see if it ever stops...

Something like that.

Thank you.

BTW: using this mysqldump

Code:
mysqldump --quick --lock-tables=false --single-transaction database > database.sql
