MySQL: Creating a new slave

I'm having a "senior moment" here.

I have a busy MySQL master which right now has one slave that's working just fine. Now, I want to set up a second one.

And I really don't want to have to suspend MySQL on the master in order to get a "clean" mysqldump with which to seed this new slave (at a particular known master-log position).

Is there another way to load the initial data into this new slave? So that I don't have to interrupt operations on the master in order to do it?

How busy is the Master and how large are the databases? Doing the dump from the master with the position data is the most reliable way to complete this exercise.

How old is the dump you used to populate your first slave? Depending on how your master logs rotate you might be able to use that.

Did you also consider making your new slave a slave of the first slave?
