Mumble Server

OK, I need your help. I've spent the last five and a half hours trying to setup a simple mumble server on linux any got no where.

Mumble: http://mumble.sourceforge.net/

I am using debian 5.0 x86.

I have read all the mumble site, nearly every mumble forum post google can find, and tried several different methods. I even tried Ubuntu and Fedora to see if they would would. EPIC failure!

I have tried using the RPM for fedora, failed. I have tried compiling the source code manually, failed. I tried using the GIT for debian, failed.

How hard can this really be?

Why did the compiles fail, what were you missing, maybe an apt-get install of some things might make it work. It sounds like if a Debian built package wasn't workign you might be missing some libraries you need, maybe adding backports or using testing might help.

I got soo pissed off in the end I gave up. I came back today to give it another clean-headed go. For some reason the debian package is named different from the rest. Apt-Get installs 1.1.4 which is a old version, there have been many versions since this. Compiling manually uses qmake which needs qmake-qt4, although brings is lots of missing directories while compiling.

Heres what I am doing today:
I reinstalled a new clean debian 5.0 on my VPS.

HDD: 0.54GB / RAM: 80MB

Added deb ftp://ftp.us.debian.org/debian sid main to /etc/apt/sources.list
Run apt-get update
Ran apt-get install mumble-server (9 upgraded, 45 newly installed, 0 to remove and 267 not upgraded)

HDD: 0.37GB / RAM: 9MB

Ran sudo dpkg-reconfigure mumble-server

Ran apt-get remove mumble-server-web
Ran apt-get install mumble-django

Any idea how to get this MurmurCL working? Is there a download for it?

Now you've mixed stable and unstable. This is highly unrecommended.

Mixing isn't recommended, he should have probably tried backports first, however, the one package will hopefully not negatively affect his machine and if it does well he learns a lesson.
