Move SuSe 10 SP1 hard drive to new(er) server

Hi all -

Quick question. We have a server running on an IBM blade running SuSe 10 SP1. We now have a faster (more memory, more processors, faster processors) blade that is empty in the same bladecenter. If I were to just simply move the hard drive from the slower blade to the faster blade, will SuSe recognize this and be able to utilize the faster hardware? Or would I have to do any kind of recompiling, etc to get it to use the faster hardware?

Thanks!

Hi VeeDubbs,

It would depend on how similar the hardware is, HS20 -> HS40 would probably be fine, HS20 -> HS21 maybe not. You'll just have to give it a go, maybe try it with an image rather than the original disks though ;)

cheers

If the new blade is the same processor type it will be fine. Processor type being x86, x64, PPC, ....
