mount error 13 = Permission denied, when trying to access an smb share

Hello!

I'm trying to setup a samba share on an "old" computer running Xubuntu 8.04LTS. I've configured the smb.conf in several ways, and by using a command found in a different forum I've discovered that the share is there, but when I try to mount it I get:

mount error 13 = Permission denied

I try to connect using a username that's setup on the server (right now I'm actually trying from the server), and the password that works on that computer, so what am I doing wrong?

I've been fiddling with PAM at work a little bit, is that something I need to setup to get it to work, or what is wrong?

I see that someone else has asked about a similar thing. I just tried mounting with "smbfs" instead of "cifs", and that didn't work either unfortunately...

Hello!

I didn't get any suggestions, but finally I found the solution myself so I'm writing it here for any users with the same problem.

The solution was that even though the user existed on the host system I needed to add it to the samba server aswell. This is done by typing:

smbpasswd -a username

And then you just enter the password you want (twice), and restart the server with:

smbd restart

And it works. I'm still having problems with permissions, but now I can connect atleast.
